Degree EarnedPost graduate diploma is given to the graduates who successfully complete the post graduate study at the concerning department depending upon the graduate school of natural and applied sciences.

Registration Acceptance Conditions(1) Candidates who apply for admission to a master programme should hold a valid bachelor’s degree and, except the applicants to the Department of Music, a minimum score of 55 from the Selection Examination for Academic Personnel and Graduate Studies (ALES) administered by the Student Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM). Instead of ALES score, candidates may choose to submit the scores of other internationally accepted examinations whose validity and equivalency are determined by the University Senate. (2) The final admission score is determined as the total sum of %10 of the undergraduate GPA, %50 of ALES score and %40 of the grade received in the entrance examination which is conducted by a jury determined by and representing the Department. The final admission score should be at least 65. The number of accepted students is decided prior to the admission and the successful applicants are shortlisted according to the scores starting with the highest ones.   
Recognition of Prior LearningA student who has successfully completed at least one semester in a comparable master programme at another accredited institution is eligible as a lateral transfer. Lateral transfers are generally admitted after being evaluated on a case by case basis and upon the decision of the administration of the Department and the Graduate School.

Program ProfileBiology is called the “The Science for the 21st Century” and has been developing at a fast pace. Our graduates can contribute to this development and work in many areas including medicine, education, agriculture, forestry, environment, food, industry, biotechnology and biosecurity. The graduates of the department can be employed as biologists in Ministry of Health, Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Animal Breeding, Ministry of Environment and Urban Planning, Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Forestry and Water Works, Metropolitan Municipality departments (e.g., in research departments on field crops, agricultural pest control, bee production, veterinary control, land and water resources, fishery, biotechnology; and in clinical laboratories, customs departments, wastewater treatment plants, national parks, zoos and in departments for environmental protection in Ministry of Environment and Urban Planning). They can also work in private sector, e.g., in food industry, companies producing laboratory equipments and materials, facilities with biological production, private botanical gardens and pharmaceutical industry and as advisors in environmental projects. They can be employed as researchers in TÜBİTAK and research laboratories in other institutions. Furthermore, they may become academicians after they complete their postgraduate studies.

Access To Upper DegreeUpon successful completion of their master programme, the students are encouraged to embark on further academic studies on the graduate level (doctoral programme) on condition of having received the required score in ALES exam, possessing sufficient knowledge of English or another foreign language, and being successful in the entrance examination.

For a student to have successfully completed the master programme, the GPA should be at least 65.

Program Outcomes

1-Students will be able to acquire a solid base of knowledge in their field, and to contribute to the economic development of our country by using that knowledge in interdisciplinary studies.
2-Students will be able to develop skills in the use of mainly computers, and information and communication techniques.
3-Students will be able to develop new strategic approaches and to produce a solution by taking initiative in unexpected complex situations which they may experience during their scientific researches.
4-Students will be able to demonstrate the ability to evaluate the data which they obtained from the experiments they carried out, and then communicate those data to others, orally, in writing and visually
5-Students will be able to decide on their field of interest in Biology, to determine a problem in this field, and to select the appropriate method(s) among the present techniques or to design a novel method in order to solve that problem.
6-Students will be individuals who demonstrate knowledge of the role of Biology in society, and abide by the established professional and scientific ethics.
7-Students will be able to demonstrate English language proficiency adequate for keeping up with the advanced technology and information, for communicating with their foreign colleagues, and for critically reading and discussing primary literature.
