Recognition of Prior Learning | The process of recognition of former education in Turkish Higher Education Institutions is still at the start-up phase. Therefore, the recognition of former education has not been started completely in all departments of Namik Kemal University. Yet, a proficiency exam is held at the beginning of each academic year for the compulsary Foreign Language lesson which takes place in all departments’ curriculums. The students who have finished self-learning period or acquired necessary skills in these lessons have the chance to enter these exams. The students successful in these exams are considered privileged from the relevant lesson. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Degree Requirements and Rules | The students studying in this undergraduate program are required to have a Cumulative Grade Points Average (Cum.GPA) of not less than 2.00/4.00 and have completed all the courses with at least a letter grade of DD/S in the program in order to graduate. The minimum number of ECTS credits required for graduation is 240. Program Profile | Our Department aims to educate graduates familiar to the academic studies at the international level, open to national and international academic study and cooperation, informed about regional studies, capable of sophisticated analysis in interpreting world politics, and equipped with the required theoretical, historical and practicle knowledge and skills. Occupational Profiles of Graduates | After graduation they may choose occupations from a wide range of choices. They may work in state departments (such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs), as well as take researcher or consultant posts in various international/national institutions and organizations (the UN, NATO, UNESCO, EU Office, etc.), at CSOs (strategic research centres, regional/global centers of policy, etc.), or in the media. For this aim, the Department of Political Science and International Relations places emphasis on providing its students with the opportunity to conduct academic activities in English, and a rich variety of elective course alongside the core curriculum. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Access To Upper Degree | Upon successful completion of their undergraduate programme of study, the students are encouraged to embark on advanced academic studies on the graduate level (master’s and doctoral) on condition of having received the required score in ALES exam and possessing sufficient knowledge of English or another foreign language. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Exams, Assessment and Grading | Assessment and Evaluation: There is minimum one mid-term exam every semestr. In addition, there are also projects and homeworks assigned to students for decided submitting dates at the beginning of every semestr. The students have to enter the final exam at the end of every semestr. The criteria (mid-term exam, projects, homeworks and final exam) and the ratio of their effects on semestr end mark are clearly informed by course contents distributed at the beginning of the semestr and/or on web page. The final exams are held on dates, places and times decided and informed according to student regulations and academic calender of the university. The semestr end mark is graded by course responsible considering the mid-term exam, project, homeworks and final exam results. The pass mark is 60 out of 100 in Namık Kemal University. But, the final exam grade or make-up exam grade have to be minimum 50. The exams are evaluated over 100 full mark. One lessons’s semestr/one year mark is the total of %30 of arithmetic mean of mid-term or mid-terms and %70 of the final exam or make-up exam. Yet, one lesson’s semestr/end of year mark can also be calculated as the total of %30 to %50 of arithmetic mean of mid-term exam or mid-term exams and %50 to %70 of final exam or make-up exam to make total %100, upon condition of decisions taken by the board of faculty/vocational school and declared at the beginning of the semestr. As a result of the calculation, if the first number after decimal point is less than five, the previous whole number, if it is five or more than five, the next whole number is considered. Semestr end marks and make-up exam marks are announced on student information system. Grades / Marks: The folowing letter grades/marks are given to students as every lessons’ semestr end mark. Letter grades, coefficients and proportions are as follows.
The students have to take again their DD, FD or FF lessons at the next semestr the lesson is opened.
