Registration Acceptance Conditions | To be a graduate of the School of Physical Education and Sports or Faculty of Sports Sciences, to have a Master's degree with thesis in the relevant field, to have at least 70 standard points in verbal, equal weighted or numerical score type from the ALES exam centrally conducted by ÖSYM, or to be successful in internationally accepted exams whose success base scores are determined by the Senate by accepting the equivalence of the ALES exam result. Candidates who will apply to the programme must have at least 55 points from YDS or YÖKDİL or a valid score from an exam accepted by the board (TOEFL, PTE, etc.). Success grade in student admission; 20% of the master's degree graduation weighted grade point average, 50% of the standard score obtained from ALES, 30% of the score obtained as a result of the scientific evaluation exam conducted by the jury established by the institute board of directors. In order for a candidate to be considered successful, the success grade must be at least 70. |
Recognition of Prior Learning | A successful student who has completed at least one semester in another department of another institute within the relevant university or institute of high technology or in a graduate programme of another higher education institution can apply for the quota of transfer announced in the relevant department. Horizontal transfer; with the approval of the head of the relevant department and the decision of the board of directors of the institute. |
Degree Requirements and Rules |
The students studying in this Ph.D program are required:
to take a minimum of 7 courses with a minimum of 21 local credits
to pass the qualifying examination,
to prepare and defend a doctoral dissertation
to succeed in all the courses with a letter grade of at least CB/S
to have a Cumulative Grade Point Average of at least 2.50/4.00 with a minimum of 240 ECTS credits. |
Program Profile | With this programme; in order to increase the professional competence of sports educators who are experts in their field, they have priority in being appointed as academicians in the Ministry of National Education and its institutions, university and private sports facilities, sports centres specialised in various fields, sports clubs and related sports faculties and colleges of universities. The programme aims to teach students academic research methods and to bring them to a level where they can conduct independent research. It also encourages studies to develop theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of sport sciences. Students explore the social, cultural and psychological dimensions of sport and discover new knowledge and applications in this field. The programme aims to train specialists who can lead and educate in professional sports fields. Graduates will have the knowledge and skills to assume academic and professional roles in universities, sport organisations and research centres. |
Occupational Profiles of Graduates | Graduates of Physical Education and Sport PhD programme can work in a wide range of professional fields. These graduates conduct academic researches and give lectures at universities in fields such as physical education, sports sciences or coaching. They can also work as researchers who conduct research and produce scientific articles in the field of sport sciences. Professionals who manage sports organisations, organise events and manage sports institutions are also among the graduates in this field. Graduates can develop technical training and strategy by coaching professional sports teams or individual athletes. In addition, they work as sports consultants in sports centres, clubs or health institutions, developing strategies to improve the performance of individuals and teams. Graduates working in international sports organisations can also be effective in this field by studying global sports policies, organisations and events. They also train professionals who work in the field of sport psychology, providing psychological support and counselling services to improve the mental performance of athletes. |
Access To Upper Degree | Graduates who have successfully completed the PhD programme can apply to higher education institutions in the same or similar fields in Turkey or abroad for an academic position or to research centres in public institutions as an expert. |
Exams, Assessment and Grading | In order to be considered successful, the success grade must be at least 75 points in the doctoral programme. |
