Diploma Supplement

A Diploma Supplement (DS) is provided as annexed to the higher education diploma offering a standardised description of the nature, level, context, content, and status of the studies completed by its holder.

The Diploma Supplement is an important document of the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) and the more general context of the International Higher Education Area. It aims at defining and explicating the phases of particular national education systems as well as their specificity through detailed information provided about the degrees, levels, evaluation, vocational competencies, and other aspects relating to the status of the graduates.

Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University automatically issues a Diploma Supplement prepared in a widely used European language (English) for each student free of charge upon graduation.

Due to the Diploma Supplement being issued in English for each of its graduates, TNKU was awarded the Diploma Supplement Label by European Commission in 2011, which is considered an honorary distinction for universities.

For the student, the Diploma Supplement offers:

a diploma which is more readable and easier comprehended as well as comparable abroad;
a precise description of the student's academic experience and the competencies acquired during the study period;
an objective description of the student's achievements and abilities;
an easier access to opportunities of work or further studies abroad; and
a possibility of fostering the student's employability.

For the higher education institution, the benefits are:

facilitating academic and professional recognition, by which increasing the transparency of qualifications;
protecting national institutional autonomy while offering a common academic framework which is accepted all over the Europe;
promoting informed judgements about qualifications and competences which can be understood in other educational contexts;
increasing the visibility of the institution abroad;
prompting the employability of its graduates on national and international levels; and
saving time and effortd to provide answers to the questions related to various administrative and academic issues.
